Restoring the Steps of War-Torn Amputees

Helping Ukraine's Bravest Stand Again
In the growing shadow of the Russo-Ukrainian War threatening a fragile international peace, amputated Ukrainian heroes face an impossible future. Having already sacrificed their freedom to invaders, their lost limbs are a stark testament to their bravery – marking their lives forever changed.
Our team at Wahoo seeks to transform these narratives by restoring hope, movement, and a renewed sense of purpose to the tens of thousands of Ukrainian amputees suffering in silence.
With your donated funds and resources, our non-profit organization is committed to ensuring these extraordinary souls have firm ground to receive treatment, modern prosthetics, and a new lease on the passionate lives they lead.
Why is This Happening in Ukraine?
There is no way to sugarcoat it – the beautiful land of Ukraine is bleeding. Every day, Russian-backed separatists, mercenaries, and soldiers intensify their illegal invasion into new territory, and Ukrainians are bearing the brunt of the damage.
In the most significant land war the world has seen in over 80 years, Russia has constructed an 800-mile defense line that includes heavy artillery and landmines. The results? Some 20,000 to 50,000 Ukrainians have been seriously hurt and forced to amputate multiple limbs – surpassing numbers unseen since World War I.
Civilians and military personnel are stepping on those mines, with over 30,000 people waiting for prosthetics due to a lack of funding, facilities, doctors, and access to continued violence.
This damage ravages families across the country. When soldiers lose a leg, arm, or more, they cannot provide for their children. Instead of a nation rising from the ashes, we find gut-wrenching pain that ripples across generations.
“We don't heal in isolation, but in community.”
― S. Kelley Harrell
Hospitals are burning. Experts are overwhelmed, and countless soldiers risking their lives and sanities await a prosthetic limb – a lifeline to a brighter future. It costs the barely breathing Ukrainian government an average of $20,000 to get a modern prosthesis for a soldier. Civilians must seek public funding like ours to get any help.
That is beyond trying to find the medical talent and equipment that fit the unique situation of the amputee.
However, there is a way to make a difference!
At Wahoo, our nonprofit directly contacts leading organizations and individual soldiers to funnel funding for their medical needs. We offer foundational support through:
Fundraising & Amputee Resources:
The intricate nature of leg prostheses and arm prosthetics is critical for tens of thousands. Every dollar Wahoo raises goes toward securing prosthetic limbs, ensuring each amputee regains some semblance of their prior life, whether they've amputated a leg, foot, or arm. We are 100% committed to the support, guidance, and equipment crucial for these brave souls to relearn the natural rhythm of life we all take for granted.
Raising Global Awareness: The devastation in Ukraine isn't just a regional conflict. This massive global cry echoes the sacrifices of individuals fighting for their country. Beyond the war headlines, we highlight the stories of those who've faced amputation, whether soldiers who've amputated below the knee or civilians recovering from an amputated foot. Spotlighting these individuals emphasizes medical necessities, making the international community more aware of the war's profound human cost.
Empowering the Forgotten: In the chaotic aftermath of invasions and battles, many wounded warriors and civilians become the overlooked casualties, the forgotten faces of the conflict. Our initiatives target this group, providing amputees with the tools, support, and platforms they need to reclaim their identity, whether learning to walk with a leg prosthesis or picking up objects with a new artificial limb.
